Correctional officers stop assault by remand persons in custody

      Correctional Services officers stopped several remand persons in custody assaulting another remand person in custody in Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre yesterday (February 9).

      At about 7.05pm, officers on duty saw a 40-year-old male remand person in custody being attacked by three other male remand persons in custody, aged between 25 and 31, outside a cell. The officers immediately stopped the assault and called for reinforcement. The victim sustained head injury and was conscious at the time.

      Upon arrival of the reinforcement staff, the victim was escorted to the centre hospital for examination and treatment and was subsequently transferred to a public hospital for further treatment. He was treated and discharged and returned to the institution. The rest of the remand persons in custody at the scene were checked by hospital staff. The three assailants sustained no injury while two others suspected to have been involved in the assault sustained minor hand injuries.

      The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.

      The three assailants were remanded for the offences of trafficking in dangerous drugs, burglary and loitering separately, while the victim was remanded for the offence of trafficking in dangerous drugs.
