Correctional officers intercept smuggling of suspected dangerous drugs into reception centre

Correctional officers at Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre yesterday (February 22) seized more suspected dangerous drugs concealed inside the body of a male remand person in custody after intercepting a quantity of suspected drugs from him on February 21.

The 35-year-old male remand person in custody discharged seven small packs of suspected dangerous drugs on February 21 and was suspected to have other drugs concealed inside his body. He was therefore under close monitoring. At about 9.15am yesterday, he further discharged eight more small packs of suspected dangerous drugs wrapped in plastic sheet. He was remanded for an offence of trafficking in dangerous drugs.

The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.

A spokesperson for the department said, "The department takes every measure to stop the introduction of dangerous drugs or unauthorised articles into correctional institutions in order to maintain good order and discipline in a drug-free environment for all people in its custody."

There have been 20 seizures of dangerous drugs to date this year.
