Correctional officers intercept smuggling of suspected dangerous drugs into institution

     Correctional officers seized a small quantity of suspected dangerous drugs from the private clothing of a remand person in custody at Lai Chi Kok Reception Center today (March 11).

     At about 3.35pm, the 38-year-old male remand person in custody was escorted to the Reception Centre after court hearing. Officers conducted admission search and found two tablets of suspected dangerous drugs from his private clothing.

     The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.  

     A spokesperson for the Correctional Services Department said, "The department takes every measure to stop the introduction of dangerous drugs or unauthorised articles into correctional institutions in order to maintain good order and discipline in a drug-free environment for all people in its custody."

     The male remand person in custody was remanded for offences of trafficking in dangerous drugs and possession and use of forged identity card.

     There have been 24 seizures of dangerous drugs by correctional officers to date this year.
