Correctional Officers stop remand person in custody from self-harm

Correctional officers stop a remand person in custody from hurting himself in Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre today (March 18).

At about 4.20pm, the 45-year-old male remand person in custody who suffered from alcohol-induced psychosis refused to go to Siu Lam Psychiatric Centre for assessment and treatment and intended to hit his head against a wooden door. Officers at scene immediately tried to stop him but in vain. Despite counselling and repeated warning, he put up strong resistance. In order to prevent him from hurting himself and others, OC foam was applied to subdue him. He gradually calmed down before the arrival of reinforcement staff.

Three staff members and the person in custody were sent to centre hospital for examination. None of them has found to sustain injury.

The person in custody was remanded for an offence of robbery.
