Correctional officers intercept smuggling of suspected dangerous drugs into institution

     Correctional officers at Tai Lam Centre for Women seized a pack of suspected dangerous drugs from the luggage bag of a remand person in custody today (March 21).

     At about 4.05pm, the 34-year-old female remand person in custody returned to the Centre after court hearing. During security check, officers found one pack of suspected dangerous drugs weighing about four grammes from her luggage bag. The person in custody was remanded for an offence of trafficking in dangerous drugs.

     The case has been reported to the Police.
 
     A spokesperson for the department said, "The department takes every measure to stop the introduction of dangerous drugs or unauthorised articles into correctional institutions in order to maintain good order and discipline in a drug-free environment for all people in its custody."

     There have been 30 seizures of dangerous drugs to date this year.
