Suspected dangerous drugs intercepted at Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre

Correctional officers at Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre yesterday (March 25) successfully intercepted suspected dangerous drugs concealed inside the body of a remand person in custody.

Upon admission to the institution on March 22, the 54-year-old male remand person in custody underwent X-ray body scanning and was suspected to have swallowed some drugs. He was therefore put under close monitoring.

Until about 10.05am yesterday, he discharged five small packs of suspected dangerous drugs wrapped in plastic sheet. The man was remanded for the offence of trafficking in dangerous drugs.

The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.

A spokesperson for the Correctional Services Department said, "The department takes every measure to stop the introduction of dangerous drugs or unauthorised articles into correctional institutions in order to maintain good order and discipline in a drug-free environment for all people in its custody."

There have been 33 seizures of dangerous drugs so far this year.
