Correctional officers intercept smuggling of suspected dangerous drugs into reception centre

     Correctional officers at Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre today (June 18) intercepted suspected dangerous drugs which were concealed inside the body of a male remand person in custody.

     After discharging five pellets of suspected dangerous drugs wrapped in plastic sheets yesterday, the 54-year-old male remand person in custody was under close monitoring. At about 10am today, he discharged a further 15 pellets of suspected dangerous drugs wrapped in plastic sheets. The man was remanded for the offence of trafficking in dangerous drugs.

     The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.

     A spokesperson for the Correctional Services Department said, "The department takes every measure to stop the introduction of dangerous drugs or unauthorised articles into correctional institutions in order to maintain good order and discipline in a drug-free environment for all people in its custody."

     There have been 53 seizures of dangerous drugs by correctional officers to date this year.
