Correctional officers stop fighting among persons in custody

Correctional Services officers stopped a fight among five male persons in custody in Tong Fuk Correctional Institution today (July 5).

At 12.12pm, a 41-year-old person in custody argued with another 22-year-old person in custody inside the workshop. He further started fighting with four other persons in custody, aged between 26 and 35. They picked up plastic stools as weapons. Officers at the scene tried to stop them but in vain and therefore called for reinforcement. After the arrival of reinforcement staff, the persons in custody were separated by the officers.

All five persons in custody engaged in the fight were examined and treated at the centre hospital. The 41-year-old person in custody sustained injuries on his face and was transferred to a public hospital for further treatment. The other four were slightly injured and did not need to be transferred to a public hospital.

The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.

The five persons in custody were sentenced for the offences of theft and trafficking in dangerous drugs.
