A sick male person in custody from Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre died in a public hospital today (August 7).
The 67-year-old person in custody suffered from hypertension and rectum cancer and required regular follow-up by the institutional medical officer. At about 11.25pm on August 6, he felt unwell with shortness of breath and low blood pressure. He was immediately examined and treated by the centre hospital staff and was subsequently referred to a public hospital for treatment. His condition downright deteriorated later and he was certified dead at 4.52am today.
The case has been reported to the Police. A death inquest will be held by the Coroner's Court.
The man was sentenced to imprisonment for the offence of burglary.
