Correctional officers intercept smuggling of suspected dangerous drugs into reception centre

     Correctional officers intercepted the smuggling of a quantity of suspected dangerous drugs by a remand person in custody in Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre today (September 8).

     At 7.40pm, the 63-year-old newly-admitted male remand person in custody underwent security check upon admission to the institution. Officers found five small packs of suspected dangerous drugs concealed inside his underwear. The man was remanded for an offence of possession of dangerous drugs.

     The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.

     A spokesperson for the Correctional Services Department said, "With effective mechanism to collect intelligence, the department takes every measure to stop the introduction of dangerous drugs into correctional institutions and to eradicate their presence there. We are committed to maintaining a drug-free environment for all people in its custody."
