Person in custody assaults correctional officers in Siu Lam Psychiatric Centre

     Correctional officers in Siu Lam Psychiatric Centre stopped a remand person in custody assaulting staff today (October 23).

     At 8.37am, a 54-year-old male remand person in custody suddenly lost control when he was being escorted to the single cell for observation due to his unstable emotions. He bumped his head against the face of an officer. Other officers at the scene immediately stopped him. During the scuffle, the remand person in custody bit and injured the right leg of another officer. He was finally subdued with the application of OC foam after repeated warnings.

     The injured officers and the remand person in custody were sent to the centre hospital for treatment. The two officers separately suffered injuries on the face and a leg and the remand person in custody suffered minor injury to his eyes. All of them were discharged after treatment.

     The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.

     The person in custody was remanded for the offence of obtaining property by deception.
