Correctional Services Department's 62nd Autumn Fair

The Correctional Services Department (CSD) Sports Association held its 62nd Autumn Fair at the football field adjacent to Stanley Prison today (November 1). The Fair, which was officiated by the wife of the Chairman of Tung Wah Group of Hospitals, Mrs Irene Sze, attracted more than 19,000 visitors.

The theme of this year's Fair was "Correctional Services bring a Better Society". For the first time, a "Rehabilitation Corner" was set up to provide information about vocational training given by CSD and various sectors of the community to help rehabilitated offenders reintegrate into society.

Rehabilitation Corner comprised several parts, including an exhibition area set up by Cape Collision Correctional Institution which also served as a café. Here, members of the public enjoyed freshly made hot milk tea, pineapple buns and cakes made by young persons in custody who have received vocational training in catering at their respective custodial institutions. By working at Rehabilitation Corner they were able to contribute to charity at the same time. In addition, the Corner also included Chef's Noodle, social enterprise booths organised by the Home Affairs Department and a CSD Industries and Vocational Training exhibition.

The Best Stall Competition was won by Hei Ling Chau Addiction Treatment Centre. The Best Products were Lo Wu Correctional Institution's Rehabilitation Butterfly and Shek Pik Prison's CSD Staff Union Pen Bin.

Other than game stalls and sales of products made by persons in custody the Fair also organised a varied entertainment programme for visitors including dragon and lion dances, guard dog training demonstrations, a marching band by persons in custody, performances by the Civil Aid Service as well as rope skipping and cheerleading demonstrations by community and education groups.

After deducting costs, the funds raised from sales and donations through various channels at the Fair will go to more than 40 voluntary agencies and beneficiary organisations. The event also provided opportunities for persons in custody to make a contribution to the community.
