Persons in custody presented with certificates for vocational training courses

Twenty-four persons in custody were presented with certificates for vocational training courses at Tai Lam Correctional Institution today (November 25) to show appreciation for their efforts in striving to reintegrate into society after release. The courses completed included the Bar Bending and Fixing Skill Course, the Intermediate Trade Test - Concretor, the Overhead Crane Operator Course, and the Forklift Truck Operator Training Course.

Officiating at the presentation ceremony, the Director of the Construction Industry Council (Training and Development), Ir Leung Wai-hung, said he agrees that job opportunities are of vital importance to rehabilitated persons seeking smooth reintegration into the community. He expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the Correctional Services Department (CSD) in keeping pace with the employment market by providing market-oriented vocational training courses with the Construction Industry Council and other training agencies in view of the training needs of the construction and logistics industries. Such arrangements can help rehabilitated persons find promising employment opportunities after release, and also train up new entrants for the industries, he said.

He also encouraged graduates to seize chances and work for a better future by looking for relevant jobs after release. Ir Leung toured different industrial and vocational training venues after the ceremony, and said he appreciates the CSD's efforts in regard to industry development and vocational training.

The CSD has offered more than 30 market-oriented vocational training courses to persons in custody in different institutions covering construction, engineering, catering, retail, commercial, tourism, beauty, logistics, laundry services, information technology, environmental services, health care and transport to enhance the professional skills of persons in custody.
