A person in custody collapsed in Stanley Prison and died in a public hospital today (January 3).
The 70-year-old male person in custody had suffered from heart disease for a long period and required regular follow-up by medical officers in the institution. At about 7.07am, officers found him suddenly collapsed and vomited in the ward of the centre hospital. He was immediately examined and treated by the institutional medical officer and was subsequently referred to a public hospital for immediate rescue. He was certified dead at 7.54am.
The case has been reported to the Police. A death inquest will be held by the Coroner's Court.
The person in custody was sentenced to imprisonment for an offence of murder.
