Correctional officers stop fighting and act of indiscipline among persons in custody

Correctional officers stopped a fight among five remand persons in custody in Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre yesterday (February 6).

At 4.30pm, the five male remand persons in custody were involved in a fight in the exercise area. Officers at the scene immediately stopped them and segregated them for investigation.

At 6.30pm, several remand persons in custody in a dayroom asked the management to speed up the investigation. They incited more than 30 remand persons in custody not to return to their dormitories. At one time, the gate of the activity room was tied up with towels to stop correctional officers from entering to discharge their duties.

Following warnings and immediate intervention by the staff, all remand persons in custody returned to their dormitories shortly afterward.

During the incident, a total of 14 remand persons in custody were segregated for investigation involving suspected attempt of obstructing correctional officers in the course of their duties. The cases have been referred to the Police for investigation.
