Correctional officers intercept smuggling of suspected dangerous drugs into reception centre

Correctional officers at Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre today (March 15) intercepted a quantity of suspected dangerous drugs which were concealed inside the body of a male remand person in custody for smuggling into the institution.

Upon admission to the Reception Centre yesterday, the 46-year-old newly-admitted remand person in custody underwent X-ray body scanning. He was suspected to have swallowed some drugs before admission and was therefore put under close monitoring. The man was remanded for the offence of trafficking in dangerous drugs.

As at 6.33pm today, he discharged one piece of suspected dangerous drugs measuring 5.5cm by 2.2cm wrapped in plastic sheet.

The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.

A spokesperson for the Correctional Services Department said, "The department takes every measure to stop the introduction of dangerous drugs or unauthorised articles into correctional institutions in order to maintain good order and discipline in a drug-free environment for all people in its custody."
