Person in custody attacks correctional staff at Shek Pik Prison

     A 40 year-old male person in custody attacked correctional staff at Shek Pik Prison this afternoon (June 9).

     At 2.30pm, two correctional officers interviewed the person in custody regarding his own personal affairs inside an office. He suddenly turned emotional and attacked an officer with a ball pen. Staff at the scene at once tried to stop him. They subdued the person in custody by using OC foam after warnings were in vain.

     In the incident, two correctional officers and the assailant sustained injuries and were examined and treated in the centre's hospital. One of the correctional officers sustained hand injury and was referred to public hospital for further treatment, while the assailant and the other officer were not required to be referred to outside hospital.

     The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.

     The assailants was serving sentence for the offence of trafficking in dangerous drugs.
