Correctional Services Department holds 63rd Autumn Fair

The Correctional Services Department (CSD) Sports Association held its 63rd Autumn Fair at the football field adjacent to Stanley Prison today (November 7). The fair, which was officiated by the spouse of the Group Chairman of Lee Kum Kee Co Ltd, Mrs Lee Choi May-ling, attracted more than 20 000 visitors.

The theme of this year's fair was "Autumn Extravaganza with Love and Care". The People's Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison joined a CSD public performance for the first time by staging a drill involving more than 20 male guards of honour.

In addition, a group of elderly persons from an elderly service unit of the Po Leung Kuk was invited to the fair, where they made waffles with young persons in custody at the Love Café, a themed eatery for vocational training specially set up for the event. The elderly persons also met four CSD puppies and their handlers at the same venue. The activity demonstrated the love and care between the two generations and caring for animals, as well as showed support for rehabilitation and charity work.

The 63rd Autumn Fair reflected the concept of a global village. The designs of the venue and the booths showed special features of different countries and places. The opening ceremony included a lion dance by the 221st Hong Kong Group of Cape Collinson Correctional Institution (CCCI) and pipe accompaniment by the Lai King Correctional Institution Marching Band. A Chinese drum performance was staged by persons in custody from CCCI, and dogs from the CSD Dog Unit demonstrated skills for visitors.

There were sales of products made by persons in custody and performances by a Cadet Corps side drum team, a band and a motorcycling team from the Civil Aid Service and cheerleaders from schools, and there was also a taekwondo dance display as well as a juggling team performance.

The Best Stall Competition prize was won by Stanley Prison. The Best Product award was won by water cultivation system.

After deducting costs, the funds raised from sales and donations through various channels at the fair will go to more than 40 voluntary agencies and beneficiary organisations. The event also provided opportunities for persons in custody to make a contribution to the community.
