Correctional officers intercept smuggling of suspected dangerous drugs into reception centre

     Correctional officers seized a small quantity of suspected dangerous drugs from the private belongings of a remand person in custody at Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre yesterday (January 26).

     At 7.25pm, while conducting a security check on a newly admitted 22-year-old male remand person in custody, the officers found a small plastic bag containing a white crystal-like substance suspected to be dangerous drugs at the slipsole of his shoe.

     The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.

     A spokesperson for the Correctional Services Department said, "The department takes every measure to stop the introduction of dangerous drugs or unauthorised articles into correctional institutions in order to maintain good order and discipline in a drug-free environment for all people in its custody."

     The person in custody was remanded for the offence of possession of dangerous drugs.
