CSD holds "Passion, Appreciation, My Hong Kong" event

The Correctional Services Department (CSD) held an event under the theme "Passion, Appreciation, My Hong Kong" at the Staff Training Institute (STI) and the Hong Kong Correctional Services Museum in Stanley today (March 19) to tie in with the Government's "Appreciate Hong Kong" Campaign. The department also announced at today's event a new round of the CSD's Assistant Officer II recruitment exercise.

More than 1,200 secondary students, members of charity organisations, representatives of non-government organisations, ethnic minorities, underprivileged persons, young people and elderly persons participated in the event.

The Chairman of the Committee on Community Support for Rehabilitated Offenders, Mr Siu Chor-kee, and the Assistant Commissioner of Correctional Services (Human Resource), Ms Ng Sau-wai, officiated at the opening ceremony to launch the event.

The event advocated the four main concepts of the "Appreciate Hong Kong" Campaign, namely appreciating, showing gratitude for, understanding and adding value to Hong Kong. The department introduced to the participants the work of the department, recruitment procedures and recruit training, as well as the achievements of persons in custody at correctional institutions through their efforts and determination to start a new life. The event also showed the department's recent drive to promote community education in order to foster appreciation of Hong Kong from different angles.

Correctional officers wearing different uniforms were present for photographs with visitors. The uniforms included those of the Correctional Emergency Response Team, the forthcoming Regional Response Teams and the Guard of Honour, as well as regular uniform and field dress.

Participants were able to taste food prepared by persons in custody, including milk tea and cookies.

To boost the festive atmosphere of Easter, Easter eggs and Easter bunny toys made by persons in custody were given out to visitors as prizes at game booths.

Participants saw various demonstrations including tactical demonstrations, performances by the dog unit and foot drills. At the STI gymnasium, visitors saw a fitness challenge between Hong Kong elite athletes and the department's own elite athletes involving the three main physical fitness tests in the recruitment of Assistant Officers II.

Ms Ng today also announced a new round of the CSD's Assistant Officer II recruitment exercise from March 29 to April 11 to recruit at least 240 Assistant Officers II.

Further information about the entry requirements and other details of the post of Assistant Officer II will be made available on the CSD's website (www.csd.gov.hk) from March 29.
