CSD officers stop attempted escape

Officers at Siu Lam Psychiatric Centre stopped a young male person in custody attempting to escape today (May 13).

At about 10.53am, the 14-year-old young male person in custody suddenly dashed to the slope towards the perimeter wall and attempted to escape when he was escorted back to the dayroom inside the centre after a family visit. The officers immediately shouted to stop him but it was in vain, and they chased after him to apprehend him. During the course of the event, he slipped and fell and was then subdued by an officer. After receiving examination and treatment from the medical officer at the centre hospital, he was found to have sustained injuries to his face and leg. He was subsequently transferred to a public hospital for further treatment.

The whole incident happened within the perimeter boundary of the centre and the person in custody failed to escape from the controlled area of the centre. The case has been referred to the Police for investigation.

The person in custody has been suffering from mental illness and was sentenced to imprisonment for the offence of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
