Sick person in custody died in hospital

     A sick 55-year-old male person in custody at Stanley Prison died in a public hospital today (April 19).

     The person in custody suffered from cancer and required continuous medical care and follow-up by the institutional hospital and public hospital. He was sent to a public hospital for treatment on April 1 because of physical discomfort. During hospitalisation, his condition deteriorated and was certified dead at 1.02am today.

     The case has been reported to the Police. A death inquest will be held by the Coroner's Court.

     The person in custody was sentenced for 41 years for the offences of possession of arms and ammunition without licence and escape from legal custody in 1996.
