Correctional officers stop assault by person in custody

     Correctional Services officers stopped a person in custody assaulting another person in custody at Tai Lam Correctional Institution yesterday (May 10).

     At around 7.50pm, a 24-year-old male person in custody suddenly attacked a 40-year-old male person in custody in the dormitory. Officers at the scene immediately stopped the assailant and used OC foam to subdue him after repeated warnings were ignored.

     The victim sustained injuries to his face and he was referred to a public hospital for further examination. After treatment, he did not need admission to the public hospital and was immediately returned to Tai Lam Correctional Institution. The assailant sustained minor injuries and did not need to be sent to a public hospital after receiving examination and treatment by the medical officer in the centre hospital.

     The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.

     The assailant was sentenced to imprisonment for the offence of trafficking in dangerous drugs.
