Sick person in custody dies in public hospital

     A sick 39-year-old male person in custody at Hei Ling Chau Correctional Institution died in a public hospital today (June 3).

     At 10.38am on May 31, the person in custody felt dizzy in the laundry workshop and was transferred to the centre hospital for treatment. Upon treatment, the institutional Medical Officer referred him to a public hospital for further treatment. Since then, he all along received in-patient treatment in the hospital with the diagnosis of hemorrhagic stroke. In this afternoon, his physical condition suddenly deteriorated and he was certified dead at 3.32pm today.

     The case has been reported to the Police. A death inquest will be held by the Coroner's Court.

     The person in custody was sentenced for the offence of burglary.
