Person in custody attacks others at Hei Ling Chau Addiction Treatment Centre

     A 43-year-old male person in custody attacked a correctional officer and other persons in custody at Hei Ling Chau Addiction Treatment Centre today (August 1).

     At 7.37am, when a correctional officer was handling an argument between two persons in custody in the dayroom, one of the persons in custody suddenly became emotional and hurled a plastic mug containing hot water at the officer and the persons in custody next to him. The officer immediately shouted to stop him and called for reinforcement.

      The correctional officer and one of the victims sustained minor injuries to their arms during the incident. After examination and treatment provided by the medical officer at the centre hospital, both of them did not need to be sent to a public hospital.

      The Correctional Services Department has referred the case to the Police for investigation.

      The assailant was sentenced for the offence of possession of dangerous drugs.
