Person in custody dies in public hospital

     A sick 56-year-old male person in custody at Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre died in a public hospital yesterday (August 7).

     The person in custody was sentenced for the offence of possession of liquor for sale without licence on July 13. He suffered from chronic diseases including hepatocellular carcinoma and was admitted into the institutional hospital for medical care and follow-up. On July 16, he was sent to a public hospital for the management of haematemesis. During hospitalisation, his condition deteriorated and he was certified dead at 9.24pm last night.

     The Correctional Services Department has reported the case to the Police. A death inquest will be held by the Coroner's Court.
