A sick 56-year-old male remand person in custody at Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre died today (September 4) in a public hospital.
The person in custody was remanded on March 17, 2017 for the offence of trafficking in a dangerous drug. On May 31, he was referred to a public hospital for treatment due to chest infection. He was subsequently diagnosed to have lung cancer. During hospitalisation, his condition deteriorated and he was certified dead at 5.43pm today.
The case has been reported to the Police. A death inquest will be held by the Coroner's Court.
