Correctional officers stop fight among persons in custody and combat illicit activity

     Correctional officers of Hei Ling Chau Correctional Institution stopped a fight among persons in custody yesterday (September 6).

     At 2.10pm yesterday, a fight broke out among 10 male persons in custody, ranging in age from 25 to 48, in the dining hall. Officers at the scene immediately stopped them and called for reinforcements. Three of the 10 persons in custody sustained minor injuries during the fight. They were treated at the centre hospital but did not need to be transferred to a public hospital. The case has been reported to the Police for investigation and the 10 persons in custody were removed from each other's company and put under investigation.

     The Correctional Services Department (CSD), after assessment and planning, deployed reinforcements to Hei Ling Chau Correctional Institution this morning (September 7) to conduct a search operation so as to maintain order and discipline. During the operation, two persons in custody were found to have in their possession unauthorised articles. They were removed from each other's company and put under investigation. The atmosphere at Hei Ling Chau Correctional Institution is currently stable. The CSD will continue to closely monitor any developments.

     In order to assist persons in custody to rehabilitate in a safe and orderly environment, the CSD spares no effort in combating illicit activities of all kinds in its institutions.

     Hei Ling Chau Correctional Institution is a medium-security prison for the detention of male adult persons in custody who have a record of repeated imprisonment.
