Hong Kong Correctional Services Museum welcomes 800 000th visitor

The Hong Kong Correctional Services Museum welcomed its 800 000th visitor today (October 3).

Over the past two years, the Hong Kong Correctional Services Museum has been attracting more and more visitors, with the total number rising from 700 000 to 800 000 today, so the Department has arranged a simple celebration ceremony. A museum memorial book was awarded to the lucky 800 000th visitor, and all guests visiting today received a mooncake made by young persons in custody at Cape Collinson Correctional Institution. The mooncakes represent their determination to reintegrate into society and their hope that all participants can share the joy of this special Mid-Autumn Festival.

The Hong Kong Correctional Services Museum, located at 45 Tung Tau Wan Road, Stanley, opened on November 1, 2002 and has become one of the local landmarks, attracting many local and foreign visitors. The museum has 10 galleries, each with different themes, and over 600 exhibits in total. This year coincides with the 35th anniversary of the renaming of the Prison Department to the Correctional Services Department. It is hoped that by visiting the museum and seeing the exhibits, the public may learn about the history and the evolution of the Correctional Services Department over the last 170 years.
