Correctional Services Department launches Officer and Assistant Officer II recruitment exercise

The Correctional Services Department (CSD) today (January 25) launched a new recruitment exercise to recruit at least 50 Officers and around 350 Assistant Officers II. The application period for Officer starts on January 26 and closes on February 8, while that for Assistant Officer II starts on February 19 and will remain open all year.

The theme of the recruitment exercise is "Diversified Development and Inherited Professionalism". The Staff Training Institute joins with other academic and professional institutions to offer training programmes including the Professional Certificate in Safe and Effective Control Tactics and the Certificate in Safe and Effective Control Tactics, which are recognised by the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications, and the Certificate in Social Work for Correctional Services Officers, Enrolled Nurse (General or Psychiatric) Training Course, Quality Assurance Officer's Course and others, with the aim of equipping correctional officers with the necessary professional knowledge to shoulder a mission involving diverse duties. Following their professional training, officers are encouraged to fulfill their potential and achieve successful careers in an environment offering safe custody and rehabilitation for those convicted.

Year-round recruitment at Assistant Officer II level is being launched to expedite the intake of new blood in the face of high staff wastage. Applicants for the posts of Officer and Assistant Officer II are to undergo a four-stage selection procedure comprising a physical fitness test, written test, group interview and final interview. They are advised to be well versed in the values and development of the CSD, attentive to current affairs and social issues, and to familiarise themselves with the requirements of different selection stages via the department website.

Officer and Assistant Officer II recruits will undergo 26-week and 23-week residential training respectively, during which academic subjects covering sociology, criminology, counselling, psychology and relevant laws will be taught, as well as instruction in the professional domains of scenario training, tactical and weapons training, emergency response training and more.

An Assistant Officer II may be promoted to Assistant Officer I or appointed to Officer grade under the Potential Officer Scheme, while an Officer, having passed the departmental promotion examination, may be considered for promotion to Principal Officer.

Entry requirements and further details about the posts of Officer and Assistant Officer II are available on the CSD website (http://www.csd.gov.hk/).
