Correctional officers stop assault on person in custody

     Correctional officers stopped a remand person in custody assaulting another remand person in custody at Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre today (July 20).

     At 8.51am today, a 48-year-old male remand person in custody attacked a 34-year-old male remand person in custody inside a dayroom. Officers at the scene immediately stopped the assailant and called for reinforcement.

     During the incident, the victim sustained injuries to his face. After examination and treatment by the institution Medical Officer, he was referred to a public hospital for further treatment. The assailant did not sustain any injury.

     The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.

     The two persons in custody were remanded for the offences of trafficking in a dangerous drug and theft respectively.
