Unconscious person in custody dies after attempts at resuscitation

     A remand person in custody was found unconscious and died after resuscitation attempts in Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre today (February 22).

     The 35-year-old male remand person in custody suffered from asthma and had a drug abuse history. He required continuous medical care and follow-up at the institution hospital. At 7.16am today, a correctional officer found him unconscious on his bed inside a dormitory. The officer immediately called for reinforcement to provide first aid treatment to him, and an ambulance was called at once. After attempts at resuscitation, the person in custody was certified dead at 7.46am.

     The case has been reported to the Police. A death inquest will be held by the Coroner's Court.

     The person in custody was remanded for the offence of fraud in February 2022.
