Correctional staff seize suspected dangerous drugs

    

     Officers of the Correctional Services Department today (June 6) had swiftly stopped the smuggling of dangerous drugs into Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre by three remand inmates in just more than an hour.

     The three male inmates, aged between 39 and 46, had been remanded in the Centre on charges of possession of dangerous drugs and trafficking in dangerous drugs.  

     Acting on intelligence and during security checks, officers found they had discharged a total of 24 tablets of suspected dangerous drugs wrapped in plastic sheets.

     The CSD spokesperson said, "With effective mechanism to collect intelligence, the department takes every measure to stop the introduction of dangerous drugs into correctional institutions and to eradicate their presence there. We are committed to maintaining a drug-free environment for all people in its custody."

     The cases have been reported to the Police for investigation.

     There have been 75 seizures of dangerous drugs this year to date. Most seizures were made in reception centres.
