Correctional staff stop person in custody attempting self-harm

    

     Officers of the Correctional Services Department stopped a person in custody attempting self-harm at Stanley Prison last night (August 17).

     At about 8pm, patrolling officers found the male person in custody, aged 21, holding a bottle of shampoo and acting in suspicious manner. Officers suspected the inmate was trying to harm himself by swallowing shampoo inside the institution.

     The officer took him immediately to the centre hospital for initial medical examination, and sent him to outside hospital for further medical treatment. His condition is stable and he will be arranged to see clinical psychologist for further assessment and counselling.

     He was sentenced to jail for 12 months for offences of obtaining property by deception and impersonate a public officer.
