Correctional staff stop dangerous drugs being smuggled into prison
    

     Correctional officers at Tai Lam Centre for Women suspected a newly-admitted remand concealed dangerous drugs inside her body during the security check at around 5pm yesterday (September 14).

     Officers immediately sent her to a government hospital for medical examination.  At around 10pm, doctor took out from her body three pieces of suspected drugs, weighing about 310 gram in total, all wrapped in plastic sheets.

     The female, aged 29, was remanded for trafficking in dangerous drugs.  

     The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.

     A spokesperson for the Department said, "With effective mechanism to collect intelligence, the department takes every measure to stop the
introduction of dangerous drugs into correctional institutions and to eradicate their presence there. We are committed to maintaining a drug-free environment for all people in its custody."

     There have been 117 seizures of dangerous drugs to date this year. Most seizures were made in reception centres.
