Correctional staff seize suspected dangerous drugs

Correctional officers seized 13 packs of suspected dangerous drugs from an inmate on remand during a security check at Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre today (September 19), thereby stopping an attempt to smuggle dangerous drugs into correctional institutions. The case has been reported to the Police.

The 42-year-old inmate was remanded yesterday for the offence of trafficking in a dangerous drug.

A Correctional Services Department spokesperson said, "With an effective mechanism to collect intelligence, the department takes every measure to stop the introduction of dangerous drugs into correctional institutions and to eradicate their presence there. We are committed to maintaining a drug-free environment for all people in our custody."

There have been 122 seizures of dangerous drugs so far this year. Most of the seizures were made in reception centres.
