Correctional officers seize suspected dangerous drugs

     Correctional officers seized a total of 20 packs of suspected dangerous drugs wrapped in plastic from an inmate on remand at Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre during security checks today (December 10), thereby stopping an attempt to smuggle dangerous drugs into correctional institutions.

      The man, aged 53, has been remanded since December 8 for the offence of trafficking in a dangerous drug. The case was reported to the Police.
      
      A Correctional Services Department spokesperson said, "With an effective mechanism to collect intelligence, the department takes every measure to stop the introduction of dangerous drugs into correctional institutions and to eradicate their presence there. We are committed to maintaining a drug-free environment for all people in its custody."

      There have been 146 seizures of dangerous drugs so far this year. Most of the seizures were made in reception centres.
