Person on remand allegedly attacked by another person on remand at LCKRC

A person on remand at Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre (LCKRC) this morning (January 14) alleged being attacked by another person on remand, causing him minor injuries.

At around 10am, an LCKRC officer heard some noises coming out from the inmates' toilet of a day room which he was supervising. He immediately dashed into the toilet. At the scene, a ball-pen and a broken toothbrush were found. Reinforcement staff were immediately summoned and the two men on remand were separated.

The 36-year-old, sustaining minor injuries, was taken to outside hospital for medical treatment and observation. The case was reported to the police for investigation.

A spokesman for the department said, "The department has been using all possible measures to prevent people in its custody from attempting suicide, self-harm or causing harm to others. These measures include administrative arrangements, improvement of institution facilities, staff training and first aid services."

The two men on remand, aged 27 and 36, were pending court hearings on respective offences of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and abduction of child or juvenile.
