The Correctional Services Department (CSD) held a cheque presentation ceremony for its 60th Autumn Fair at the Hong Kong Central Library's exhibition hall today (February 27).
In keeping with the fair's objective of "Caring for Rehabilitation and Community", the department presented cheques amounting to more than $1 million in total to 49 voluntary agencies and beneficiaries after deducting costs from the funds, which were raised from sales and donations through various channels at last year's 60th Autumn Fair.
The department hopes to assist charities by supporting the work and services of voluntary agencies and beneficiaries in the areas of youth, family and rehabilitation. The annual fair also raises funds for the department's Sports Association through charity raffles to promote a balanced lifestyle and encourage staff to take part in various recreational and sports activities.
Last year's Autumn Fair introduced new initiatives that received a warm reception from the public, like the "charity canteen" and the sale of limited-edition souvenirs. The results could not have been achieved without the support and participation of many benefactors, community organisations and members of the public.
Among the guests attending today's presentation ceremony were some of the benefactors, including the Chairman of the Yan Chai Hospital Board of Directors, Mr Cheng Shing-lung, the Board's Vice-chairman, Mr Cheng Shing-fung, and Board Director, Mr Bou Shing-ip; the Vice-chairmen of Yan Oi Tong, Ms Ng Ming-chun, Ms Au Suet-ming and Mrs Kimmy Shi; the wife of Po Leung Kuk Vice-chairman, Mr Eric Cheng; the Chairman of the Merchants Support for Rehabilitated Offenders Committee, Mr Ho Wai-kuen; and the President of the Care of Rehabilitated Offenders Association, Ms Wendy Wan.
