Correctional officers intercept suspected dangerous drugs

     Correctional Services Officers at Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre seized suspected dangerous drugs separately from two remand inmates today (March 1).

      At about 11.20am, officers during a security check intercepted five tablets of suspected dangerous drugs wrapped in plastic from a 54-year-old male inmate remanded for the offence of trafficking in a dangerous drug.

      At about 3.35pm, officers during another security check intercepted a pack of suspected dangerous drugs wrapped in a plastic bag measuring about 3.5cm x 2cm inside the inner layer of the right shoe of a 31-year-old male remand who returned to the centre after a court hearing for the offence of possession of false instrument.

      The cases were reported to the Police.

      A spokesperson for the department said, "The department takes every measure to stop the introduction of dangerous drugs or unauthorised articles into correctional institutions in order to maintain good order and discipline in a drug-free environment for all people in its custody."

      There have been 12 seizures of dangerous drugs to date this year.
