Correctional officers intercept smuggling of suspected dangerous drugs into reception centre

     Correctional Services Officers today (March 28) seized a quantity of suspected dangerous drugs from a remand inmate at Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre.

     On his admission on March 26, the 34-year-old male remand inmate was X-rayed using a body scanner and was suspected to have swallowed dangerous drugs. At about noon today, he discharged a small plastic bag with 10 tablets of suspected dangerous drugs inside.

     The case was reported to the Police for investigation.

     The inmate was remanded for an offence of assaulting police officer.

     A spokesperson for the department said, "The department takes every measure to stop the introduction of dangerous drugs or unauthorised articles into correctional institutions in order to maintain good order and discipline in a drug-free environment for all people in its custody."

     There have been 23 seizures of dangerous drugs to date this year. Most of the seizures were made in reception centres.
