Correctional officers intercept smuggling of suspected dangerous drugs into reception centre

Correctional Services Officers seized a total of 19 tablets of suspected dangerous drugs from a remand inmate at Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre today (March 29).

After discharging a small plastic bag with 10 tablets of suspected dangerous drugs inside yesterday, the 34-year-old male remand inmate further discharged two small plastic bags containing 9 and 10 tablets of suspected dangerous drugs at about 2.30pm today.

Upon his admission on March 26, the remand inmate was examined by a x-ray body scanner, which revealed that he might have swallowed dangerous drugs.

The case was reported to the Police for investigation.

The inmate was remanded for an offence of assaulting police officer.

A spokesperson for the department said, "The department takes every measure to stop the introduction of dangerous drugs or unauthorised articles into correctional institutions in order to maintain good order and discipline in a drug-free environment for all people in its custody."

There have been 24 seizures of dangerous drugs to date this year. Most of the seizures were made in reception centres.
