An inmate attacks officer at Siu Lam Psychiatric Centre

     A female inmate attacked Correctional Services staff, causing injuries to an officer, at Siu Lam Psychiatric Centre today (April 17).

     During an interview with the 34-year-old female inmate at about 3.35pm, she suddenly turned emotional, grasped the officer's neck and punched the neck of the officer.

     The officer ordered the inmate to stop but in vain. She therefore subdued the assailant.

     The injured officer was sent to a public hospital for medical examination and was discharged after treatment. The assailant sustained only minor injury on her left hand and was treated by the medical officer in the centre hospital and needed not to go to public hospital.

     The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.

     The assailant was serving sentence for an offence of inducing others to commit fraud.
