Correctional officers intercept smuggling of suspected dangerous drugs into reception centre

    Correctional officers seized a small quantity of suspected dangerous drugs from a female remand inmate at Tai Lam Centre for Women today (May 18).

      At about 6.20pm, officers found the 24-year-old remand inmate who was newly admitted to the Centre after the court hearing concealing one grain of suspected dangerous drugs wrapped in a transparent plastic bag inside her mouth. The inmate was remanded for the offence of theft.

      The case was reported to the Police for investigation.

     A spokesperson for the department said, "The department takes every measure to stop the introduction of dangerous drugs or unauthorised articles into correctional institutions in order to maintain good order and discipline in a drug-free environment for all people in its custody."

     There have been 41 seizures of dangerous drugs to date this year. Most of the seizures were made in reception centres.
