Correctional officers stop remand inmate from self-harm

     Correctional Services officers stopped a male remand inmate from hurting himself in Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre today (July 18).

      At about 12.55pm, the 37-year-old inmate suddenly turned emotional when he was meeting a visitor in the visit room. He hit his right hand against the grille bars at the visit booth. Officers at the scene immediately stopped him.

      The inmate suffered injury over his right little finger and was treated at the centre hospital.  He was later transferred to a public hospital for further examination and treatment. He will be referred to a departmental clinical psychologist for further assessment.

      The inmate was remanded for an offence of trafficking in dangerous drugs.
