Correctional officers stop an inmate assaulting another inmate

     Correctional officers stopped an assault on an inmate in Hei Ling Chau Correctional Institution today (August 29).

     At about 8am inside the Dining Hall, a 34-year-old male inmate launched a sudden attack on another male inmate, aged 40, with his fist and a plastic comb. On-duty officers immediately stopped the assault and separated the two men.

     Both the victim and the assailant were examined and treated in the centre's hospital. The victim was later transferred to a public hospital for further examination and treatment. The assailant sustained no injuries.

     The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.

     The assailant was serving a sentence for the offence of breach of deportation order, while the victim was serving a sentence for the offence of robbery.
