Press Release

CSD's annual Autumn Fair to be held this Saturday

The Correctional Services Department (CSD)'s annual Autumn Fair will be held in Stanley on Saturday (November 2).

The Autumn Fair, a large-scale and popular public event organised by the CSD's Sports Association, is now in its 61st year, having been launched in 1953. The theme of this year's Fair, "Support Charity, Enjoy Green Lifestyle and Have Good Fun", highlights the role of the event as a platform for co-ordinating the efforts of staff, inmates, business and community organisations and members of the public in promoting a green lifestyle and raising funds for the community.

The Fair Organising Committee has arranged many innovative and special programmes for visitors this year in a bid to offer unforgettable experiences and raise more funds for those in need.

The new features include a "Green Corner", which will present exhibition boards featuring the department's long-standing efforts in carrying out environmental work. In addition, there will also be briefings on the operation of the Food Waste Decomposer, the processes of worm composting and leaf composting, and the sale of recycled soap and recycled clay inside the Corner.

Apart from offering traditional game stalls and sales of products made by inmates, the Fair will provide visitors with a rich entertainment programme including dragon and lion dances, guard dog training demonstrations, marching bands and an African drum performance by inmates. There will also be performances by the Civil Aid Service as well as newly added programmes such as rope skipping, cheerleading and Taekwondo demonstrations by community and education groups. The colourful events have been selected to tie in with the Fair's aims of supporting charity and offering a fun day for all.

After deducting costs, the funds raised from sales and donations through various channels in the Fair will go to more than 40 voluntary agencies including inmates' welfare services. The charity event will also provide opportunities for inmates to contribute to the community.

The Fair will run from 11am to 5pm at the Football Field next to Stanley Prison (99 Tung Tau Wan Road). Members of the public are welcome to share the fun and contribute to charity. Admission is free.

The venue is accessible by bus routes 6, 6X, 63, 73, 260 and 973 and green minibus routes 40 and 52.

Ends/Wednesday, October 30, 2013
Issued at HKT 12:00
