Correctional officers stop smuggling of suspected dangerous drugs into reception centre

Correctional officers seized a small quantity of suspected dangerous drugs from the personal belongings of a male recall inmate who was recalled to Drug Addiction Treatment Centre for further treatment in Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre yesterday (November 9).

Upon admission search at about 11.15am, the officers found two syringes, one of which contained small quantity of suspected dangerous drugs, from the personal belongings of the 42-year-old male inmate. The case was reported to the Police for investigation.

The inmate was recalled because of breaching a supervision order.

A spokesperson for the Correctional Services Department said, "The department takes every measure to stop the introduction of dangerous drugs or unauthorised articles into correctional institutions in order to maintain good order and discipline in a drug-free environment for all people in its custody."

There have been 83 seizures of dangerous drugs to date this year. Most of the seizures were made in reception centres.
